Laundry, ironing and alterations prices in Hartlepool — the 2026 guide
When people ring me, the first question is nearly always the same: "what does it cost?" Fair enough — so here is the whole answer in one place, with real numbers, the way I actually charge them. I run Injakster, a small home laundry on Wharton Street in Hartlepool: washing, pressing, and sewing alterations, collected from your door and brought back finished.
How the pricing works
One price per bundle or per item — no surcharges appearing later. Three rules cover everything:
- Minimum order £15. Smaller baskets are simply topped up to £15, so it is worth adding one more thing.
- Collection & delivery £5.00 within 4 miles of Wharton Street, then £0.60 per extra mile. I cover roughly a 9-mile radius around Hartlepool.
- Order £25 or more and the £5 disappears — you only pay for any extra miles.
Nothing is paid online. You pay on collection or delivery, and I confirm every booking by phone or text before I set off.
Washing and pressing — bundles and loads
Everyday washing is cheapest in bundles or by weight. Everything comes back washed, pressed and folded (or on hangers, if you prefer):
- School uniform — 5 items (wash + press)£9.55
- School uniform — 8 items£14.10
- School family bundle — 12 items£19.30
- Work week bundle — 3 trousers + 4 shirts£12.30
- 3kg load (wash + press)£12.00
- 5kg family load£18.00
- 10kg big family load£32.00
Ironing only — when things are already clean
If your washing machine does the washing but the ironing pile keeps winning, press-only prices are lower:
- 10 items pressed£10.30
- 5 shirts pressed£5.20
- 5 kids' uniform items pressed£3.40
- Single men's shirt or women's blouse£1.25
- Single kids' uniform item£0.80
Alterations and repairs
The sewing side runs alongside the washing — book it on its own or add it to a laundry order. My rates are around 30% under the going rate in the North East:
- Trousers shortened£9.50
- Jeans shortened (original hem kept)£11.50
- Kids' trousers or skirt shortened£6.50
- Waist taken in or let out£14.50
- Zip replaced — trousers or jeans£14.00
- Name label sewn in (each)£0.85
- Name labels — full uniform set£4.00
- Knee patch on kids' trousers£5.00
Dresses, suit jackets, coats and anything lined or beaded are quoted when I see the garment — the price list shows a starting point for those.
A worked example
Say you live 6 miles from Wharton Street and send a 5kg family load (£18.00) plus 5 pressed shirts (£5.20). The basket is £23.20 — under £25 — so delivery is £5.00 plus 2 extra miles at £0.60, £6.20 in all: £29.40 total. Add one washed-and-pressed shirt (£2.05) and the basket passes £25, the flat £5 vanishes, and the whole order — with an extra shirt in it — comes to £26.45. That is why regulars round their baskets up.
What I don't do
There is no dry cleaning here — everything is washed and pressed by hand, and sewing is done in-house. Anything labelled dry clean only is best left with a dry cleaner.
